About BrandKavach
BrandKavach is an independent trademark watch, built in Bengaluru by a software engineer. It reads the official Trade Marks Journal so that small Indian brands don’t have to.
Why it exists
When the Trade Marks Registry accepts an application, it’s published in the Trade Marks Journal. From that day, anyone has 4 months to oppose it, and the deadline can’t be extended. Once the window closes and the mark is registered, the routes left, such as rectification or a court case, are slower and far more expensive.
Large companies pay law firms to read every journal. Small brands rarely can: the journal is long, most watch services are quote-based or sold to lawyers through sales calls, and many founders only hear about a copycat after it’s registered. BrandKavach is the self-serve version: a published price, and an alert that tells you how many days you have left.
Where the data comes from
Everything we match against comes from the official Trade Marks Journal, published online by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (IP India). We republish only the factual details we need: application number, word mark, class, journal number and date. We don’t scrape IP India’s websites, and we’re not affiliated with IP India.
