Trademark renewal date calculator

Enter the application date of your registered trademark. In India the 10-year term counts from the application date, not from the date on your registration certificate.

Printed on your registration certificate and in the IP India records as the date of application.

How these dates are worked out

A trademark is registered as of its application date, and a registration lasts 10 years. Each renewal adds another 10 years from the previous expiry. Renewal is filed on Form TM-R, up to 12 months before expiry.

If you miss the expiry date, you can still renew within 6 months by paying a surcharge. After that the Registrar can remove the mark, and restoration is possible until 12 months after expiry, at the Registrar’s discretion.

If you haven’t renewed, the Registry sends a reminder notice (Form RG-3) before expiry. Not receiving it doesn’t change the date.

Frequently asked questions

Do the 10 years start from the registration certificate date?

No. In India a registered mark is treated as registered from its application date, so the 10-year term counts from the day you applied.

How early can I renew?

You can file Form TM-R up to 12 months before the expiry date.

What if I miss the expiry date?

You can still renew within 6 months after expiry by paying a surcharge on top of the renewal fee. After that, restoration within 1 year of expiry is possible only if the Registrar agrees.
